AV Multiout Board for NESRGB Installs and More!

Posted by Fragol Roc on

This board is perfect for installing NESRGB's or any other projects where you would want to use an SNES style multiout cable. This post will help outline all of the available resources for this board including design files, 3D printable housing, and install videos.

If you would like to skip the hassle of making your own AV Multiout, you can purchase premade kits in the shop!

Resources

There are currently a couple different revisions of this board. Below are picture examples of the board and a GitHub link where you can find the appropriate GERBER files. Gerber files are uploaded to PCB manufacturing sites. When you upload these files, you will have to select what attributes you want your PCB to have. For all of these files I recommend the following attributes:

  • 1.6mm thickness
  • ENIG or Hard Gold finish
  • Gold Fingers
  • If the manufacturer allows, bevel the Gold Fingers
    • If not, then bevel the connector edge to prevent damage

FragolTech Original Mix - Jumper Edition

This board has solder pads on both sides of the board as well as two pads for audio. This would be ideal for any mod that has dual audio output or stereo. However, for mods that have a single audio output, there is a jumper (J1) that can be soldered to bridge the channels together giving you dual mono. This is a nice compact way to add an AV Multiout to your project.

FragolTech Zaxour Mix

This is a remixed version of the board that puts all of the solder pads onto one side and in the same order as the NESRGB mod by Tim Worthington. This mix allows an installer to quickly and easily hook up a ribbon cable without needing to cross wires. It also has bridged mono, meaning the LEFT and RIGHT audio are internally bridged. You cannot get stereo output from this board, but mono audio will be output to both left and right channels.

3D Printed Housing

Once you have your AV Multiout PCB of your choice, you will need a way to attach it to the console of your choosing. There are a few different options that will be listed below. This PCB was design after The Real Phoenix's PCB which has served as a standard for AV Multiout PCB's. The housing links provided should be compatible with the above PCB and other PCB's based on this design.
